The environmental zone of Düsseldorf - Environmental lanes

To avoid diesel driving bans in the Düsseldorf city centre, the Clean Air Plan, adopted in February 2019, was supplemented by the introduction of lanes dedicated to electric vehicles.
On these sections, only certain vehicle types can drive under certain conditions.
On 15.04.2019 and 14.10.2019, three lanes for electric vehicles were set up. All electric or hybrid vehicles that have an E-license plate number or an E-Sticker are allowed to use these environmental lanes. Local public buses, taxis and car pools with at least 3 persons are also permitted. All other vehicles are prohibited from driving on these environmental lanes.

The streets concerned are Merowingerstraße towards the city centre, located between Kopernikusstraße and Ludwig-Hammers-Platz, and Prinz-Georg-Straße in both directions between Moltkestrasse and Bagelstrasse.
On 14.10.2019, a third environmental lane was introduced. It is divided into several sections, which will be completed shortly.

The temporary driving bans depend on many factors, such as the age of the vehicle, EURO standard, the first and possibly second fuel type and many more. Sometimes current air values and the general weather situation play a role in connection with holidays and trade fairs. Area/extension of the environmental zone:

Merowingerstraße towards the city centre between Kopernikusstraße and Ludwig-Hammers-Platz. As well as Prinz-Georg-Straße between Moltkestraße and Bagelstraße in both directions.
On 14.10.2019 another environmental lane was established in Düsseldorf. This environmental lane has several sections, which will come into force over the course of the year.
The 1st section runs along Kaiserstraße and Fischerstraße between Sternstraße and Homberger Straße.
The 2nd section begins at the level of Südpark behind the exit of the A46 Düsseldorf-Centre highway and leads via Werstener Straße, Witzelstraße, Mecumstraße and Erasmusstraße to Corneliusstraße.

The Blue Badge for Diesel Restriction Zones

In Germany, the Blue Badge might be introduced in 2020. It is required to access diesel restriction zones.
In 2020, cities and communities will introduce driving restrictions for various EURO classes of diesel vehicles. Therefore, the Blue Badge becomes a need in order to distinguish older diesel vehicles and EURO classes as well as petrol vehicles without particle filter from vehicles with a lower emission of pollutants.
